OUGD505 Studio Brief 1 - Research - Greek Banknotes
Greek banknotes are relevant to research as they also used elements of mythology within its imagery. Notes were issued by the National Bank of Greece from 1841 until 2001 when Greece joined the Euro. Early denominations ranged from 10 to 500 drachmae. The aesthetic can influence my own designs as using Greek imagery along with Greek mythology is clearly relevant. The Drachmae uses very similar imagery to other circulating banknotes, yet the use of Greek language and Greek kings is what makes the bank notes distinguishable. The use of Greek and their alphabet is something I had not previously thought about until now. Using this will back up my concept of Greek mythology and the references will be clear and the imagery and text will therefore go hand in hand for the overall aesthetic.
