OUGD405 - Photography Induction

OUGD405 - Photography Induction

During the photography induction, we learnt about the specific features that you need to work with to get different effects for a photograph. This was completely new to me and I wasn't aware of the depth of how much you can distort and the numerous effects you can get just by changing the settings on a camera. It was really interesting to explore the different outcomes you can get just by changing the ISO, shutter speed and the aperture. Although having a camera, I saw these different settings, I never really understood what they did, but now especially by trying and testing them out I feel I have really got to grips with it. While practising, we also had to show examples of shallow death of field, deep depth of field, slow shutter speed and fast shutter speed, which I have demonstrated below. Although I believe my outcomes demonstrate this well, I did have trouble getting all the settings correct so I did have some completely white and completely black photographs. However, the more I tried and tested it out, the more I understood and was able to get the correct effect.

Shallow depth of field, selective focus, blurred background

Deep depth of field, everything sharp

Slow shutter speed, to blur movement

Fast shutter speed, to freeze movement
