OUGD406 Studio Brief 1 - Idea Generation

OUGD406 Studio Brief 1 - Idea Generation

Once we had listened to all of the songs, my first initial thoughts were to go with St Vincent - Digital Witness or The Maccabees - Go, as these were the songs I preferred the most myself, and I felt that I would have the best visual response to the song if I preferred the song. Once listening to The Maccabees - Go, it immediately made me think of Neil Krug's work due to all the layers and textures within the song. In addition the vibe of the song is quite calming but striking, and the riffs in the song make me think pastel colours for the designs. This links to Neil Krugs work, and also Shae DeTar who are similar artists. While doing more research as well I found Leif Podhajsky's work, which I really love and I find so visually striking and beautiful. He also has a similar aesthetic to Neil Krugs work and both artists have similar qualities about their work. While researching into Podhajsky's work I found an interview with him which had really good links to what he is inspired from and how he works, but also different websites and artists who inspire him. To begin with, I started off by creating thumbnails of initial ideas, it started to get my ideas flowing but I think what was most helpful for me was getting onto Photoshop and really creating initial ideas, these ideas were really informed by my research which gave me a good basis to start these ideas from.
