OUGD406 Studio Brief 2
Study Task 1 - Book Analysis
The book that I was given is a guide for designers, writers, editors and primarily students on how to arrange written content. The book is split into three sections - Letter, text and grid and is an instructional book on how to use type. Lupton felt compelled to write the book as when she was looking for a typography book herself, she found no book which had how text and design collaborate to enhance understanding, therefore she found no other alternative than to write one herself. Ellen Lupton is a renowned design author and educator. She is the curator of contemporary design at Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York and director of the Graphic Design MFA programme at Maryland Institute College of Art. Lupton also follows what the Bauhaus taught, and a lot of her work is on a commutative level, and her works are on helping the public to understand how simple the design world would be. This book is the second edition of her book, which I think she has done to keep it up to date, as it say it has been 'revised and expanded' as the design world always has different trends, therefore her D.I.Y book is still relevant.
