OUGD406 Studio Brief 2 - Production

OUGD406 Studio Brief 2 - Production

From my feedback I decided to take this design forward for my final book cover design. The design comes across to me as playful and lively which is the effect I was going for overall. Although I have struggled with thinking of a concept for this brief I now know to stick with what I believe, I was struggling with thinking of designs as none that I've seen and traditionally would be book covers for typography inspire me at all. I wanted a book cover that would make you want to pick it off the shelf and not have to, thats playful and enthusiastic. As we are graphic designers as well it should be a well designed book cover to motivate us in wanted to open up and see whats inside. I am very happy though with my design as I feel as though I have overcome my struggle for designs and stuck with what I felt was best to do, and created a design I feel achieves what the look that I wanted. I think the cover conveys a playful sense due to the style of the type and the analogous colours, but it still has a 60s vibe to it as it contains features of psychedelic 60s style. My research into this has certainly influenced this and I love this style and hope to work with it more in the future, this cover though also works with this style and the simplicity of the strong colours to work well as a book cover, especially as a screen print.

Final Critique

During my critique, I had positive feedback but I was also asked whether or not I have tried different colours, as I mentioned in the critique that I wasn't sure whether or not these colours were a bit feminine, but Simon then went on to agree but thinks I can achieve a unisex poster if I use like a neon pink to use which will suit as well the whole aesthetic of the piece. In addition this variation of the two designs were favoured from the two, therefore I'm happy to take forward this design to screen print.
