OUGD406 Studio Brief 3 - Idea Generation

OUGD406 Studio Brief 3 - Idea Generation

Once being set the brief, our group came up with a plan of when we should all meet during the interview week, which was everyday apart from one day where some of our group members had there screenprinting. That day however we all a look at the website for research then went down to Leeds Central Library to have a look at the space we would be exhibiting in. Once we met up we started to create a mind map and really wanted to figure out a concept first which then our logo and all other designs would follow from. I thought of the idea of using the Leeds College of Art logo to emphasise the fact that it was a student exhibition. We thought that this was a unique point to the exhibition the fact that it was actually a first and second year exhibition, rather than the typical graduate exhibitions that you see. We wanted to make this a unique factor but also wanted to keep it relevant to the book exhibition, therefore one of our group members thought about having the concept of 'pages' we decided to go ahead with. We thought collectively that using the idea of the shape of the logo for Leeds College of Art but overlaid and turned would be more effective so isn't too obvious. In addition that each aspect such as the invites, name tags etc would all be in this shape and have one page or more so all of the designs are consistent and keep within the concept. Once our concept was in place we created initial thumbnail designs to see how this would work and we all agreed that we liked the concept and designs and from this, we could work on our logo. We then all decided on different roles for the group members but that all of us would all together create the logo and decide on the name, colours and typeface. From this then all of us could easily adapt these into our own individual works that we were assigned to, as followed:

Emma (Me): Invites
Vedika: Name Tags
Billy: Website & Social Media
Tamie: Poster
Yacke: Leaflet

Once we had all worked individually on these we would then all come together to show what we have produced and then all contribute and critique each others work together. We then decided on the name 'The Cover' for our exhibition once mind mapping ideas as we felt that this was simple and snappy.
