OUGD403 Studio Brief 2 - Idea Generation

For this brief I decided to take forward my 8th design, based around the dynamics of music. This design is the interpretation of dynamics as musical dynamics. In music, dynamics normally refers to the volume of a sound or note - staccato and legato. Therefore for this design I looked at musical notes and felt that the design should be quite scripted, in addition for the weight of bodies to be contested to represent a musical note. Together, when put into a word I quite like how the design flows into one another, and does also have the element of energy and movement. Hence, I think it would be really interesting to develop and also have each letter joining to one another and having a point of connection.
Therefore I took the design and created an upper and lower case alphabet using the same idea of movement and musical dynamics. Overall I am quite happy with the look of both alphabets. From our interim crits my group agreed that I should take this design forward, and while thinking about how to digitalise them, I knew it would be quite time consuming due to the curvy nature of the design. I also wasn't sure how to make all the letters connect to one another, yet my group suggested that my letters could connect if they all had the same point of connection in the same place, so this is something I will work on while developing my digitalised letters.
