OUGD504 Studio Brief 3 - Screen Printing
Screen printing was the best option for creating the front cover as digitally printing it would not be appropriate. Book rum was the decided stock to use for the front cover as this was traditionally used and would complement the aesthetic. Many traditional book covers would use gold foil on the book rum, as it was found there was no access to this - it was decided that metallic ink would be best. The metallic ink encountered problems however. On paper it looked quite impressive yet when screen printed onto the book rum, it was barely metallic and came out in a dull grey. Fortunately the gold did come out well and once screen printed, it was felt from my peers that gold onto grey book rum looked the most efficient and compelling.
