OUGD505 Studio Brief 2 - Research - Club Culture Aesthetic

OUGD505 Studio Brief 2 - Research - Club Culture Aesthetic

Local Flyers

The local flyers and posters around Leeds have the headliners as the main focus. Mainly using minimal imagery. In addition, all have a digital platform which most people, including myself rely on to get information about when the next event is happening, as do most other people with events elsewhere. Therefore it is crucial to create a digital platform as part of my outcome for the brief. This platform will be key in distribution.

Vintage Rave Flyers

Vintage rave flyers are a great source of inspiration for aesthetic purposes. These flyers from the 90s paved their way in creating an overall 'look' and aesthetic to underground raves. We today relate to this aesthetic to this meaning despite it being diluted through the years. Imagery such as the Acid Smiley Face  and use of bright colours and distortion are used to create really unique standalone pieces, despite them being flyers. Flyers have a very short shelf life and tended to be for underground raves. Therefore flyers needed to grab attention quickly and attract the right target audience.

Modern Nightclub Flyers

Some flyers nowadays tend to use contemporary graphic design to create posters with more aesthetic. The majority however still use typical imagery of nightclubs etc and a lot also use women to advertise their events. These women are used as decorative objects in the posters as they have been for years now. Particularly things such as Ibiza and albums coming out use these women's bodies for their identity. I want to stay clear of typical Dance/House designs as I simply believe that they are tacky. Using a more contemporary way to promote my campaign will be much more successful as it will draw audiences in, rather than mistaking it for a poster for Tiger Tiger.
