OUGD505 Studio Brief 2 - Research - New Wave Design

OUGD505 Studio Brief 2 - Research - New Wave Design

One potential aesthetic that I admire and could suit the potential of this campaign, is New Wave design. These works are specifically taken from April Greiman, one of the designers who was able to transition into the digital age, embracing computers when designing during the New Wave movement which had influences from Punk design. This then went onto influence (along with other design movements) the illegal underground rave posters and aesthetic. New Wave focuses on colour, geometric shapes and random design. From my research, I feel that this along with the classic rave posters of the 1990s will be a better aesthetic to work with for clubbing/DJ campaign. A lot of the modern designs for EDM and club nights at nightclubs have a very similar aesthetic and people relate the designs to these type of nights, whereas more underground club nights or raves focus on the line up as the main importance to the design. Using a aesthetic such as this will appeal to the target audience and will create a fresh new aesthetic. My aim is not to do similar designs to the club nights of today, and rather create something fresh and new for campaign. This therefore is an output I can use for influences.
