OUGD504 Studio Brief 1 - Development
In addition I also wanted to simplify my fold as from my feedback, I found that people said that some bits of the fold were unnecessary so I wanted to re think this as well. This decision was made as I also agreed that bits of the fold were surplus, as it is contradictory having a simple, easy to use process with a complicated fold - both should be straightforward. Looking back at the study task, I thought about using a concertina fold as this is a really easy, simple fold to use. Concertina folds creates interest by the sheer shape of the paper as it square and works landscape. As we are used to vertical A4 paper this fold is out of the ordinary therefore automatically draws our attention to it. Playful, friendly folds appear to be most successful as they catch more people's attention, therefore for this brief this could potentially be an efficient fold to chose. Once tried out, there was trouble with how to print and produce this, so in the end I ended up printing out the two sides and sticking them together. The outcome of the experiment turned out well although I knew I wanted to experiment a bit more with different stock when I had the design down.
After the critique I have simplifying my design as from the previous critique I realised that my design was to complex and hard to understand. Therefore I went back to the drawing board and really simplified my original design. I felt that this was easy to read but a bit basic, but all in all my aim was for an easy to follow process, so I felt that this design was most appropriate. This design still follows on from my previous idea and still has substance. As the designs concept is getting from one place to the other, it is relevant as that is what process is all about. The design follows on from one stage to another and empathises moving forward and progressing, making this appropriate to the design process.

There were a range of stock choices however one was particularly compelling to me and would be effective for my design as it wasn't garish or bold but quite subtle with texture to it. As my design is minimalist it makes sense to chose a subtle stock so the whole design goes hand in hand and doesn't contradict each other. In addition I thought about how nice silver foiling would look with this chosen stock.
Once again tried and tested, I debated whether or not to add more colour to the design. My own opinions and feedback led to me deciding to stick with the original design. It was felt that a two colour scheme would be best to stick with the minimalist approach, this made it aesthetically pleasing opposed to the slightly childish feel of the more colourful version.
