OUGD504 Studio Brief 1 - Initial Ideas & Interim Crit

OUGD504 Studio Brief 1 - Initial Ideas & Interim Crit

After research and first thoughts, the next stage was to then draw up a map in the style of the London Underground which went through the design process. The different 'stops' have different aspects of each main step, for example 'research' goes off into three different points - 'primary,' 'secondary' and 'in depth understanding.' This is a different way of approaching the brief however there is a concern that it isn't simple.

The digitalised version of this sketch wasn't successful. This is as the shape turned out to be rather peculiar and robotic, which wasn't the desired design. In addition, the constraints of the fold meant that the shape of the design was very limited. It was then realised that there wasn't enough space with this layout for everything to fit and it would ultimately look clumsy and messy. Therefore during the interim critique, questions were put forward whether the map was too crowded or not. From this, a collection of really useful responses were received but did however lead to thoughts of completely reevaluating everything already done. The map idea had a good response and I think I will continue to work on this idea, but make it a lot more simple. The fold as well was an issue as the comments said that it was too intricate and the flaps were unnecessary. After this I came to the conclusion that I agreed and needed to simplify my fold as well. The critique ultimately was really useful and made me realise I needed to simplify all my ideas, although this was a bit daunting, it was helpful and feedback to me is very valuable.
